This was an idea started by Adam on Pitch Right. He's cool with me creating my own. I'll try to post this thing position by position and give you a generic reason of why that particular individual possesses "badassery". Starting, of course, with quarterbacks:1. Todd Reesing, Kansas
If there's anybody that symbolizes this vague, ambiguous quality of badassery, Todd Reesing would fit the bill. The undersized now junior gunslinger led one of the more unexpected turnarounds in college football history taking the Kansas Jayhawks to their only BCS win. Not only did he defeat Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl, he wasn't even supposed to be the starter coming into the year! Sticking it out as the underdog and overcoming adversity is a true badass quality, indeed. He's a pretty smart guy too.
Reesing showed some mobility throughout the season, but this guy gets it done through the air. He threw 33 touchdowns to 7 interceptions. Todd finished the year throwing for 3486 yards. His best performance of the season came against the lowly Cornhusker defense where he threw 6 TDs and no picks.
Video Tribute:2. Bobby Reid, Texas Southern
Oh, so this is what Desmond Howard must have envisioned when he gave that bizarre analysis on College Football Live earlier this year.....
Look, this is probably the last time the whole Gundy/Carlson/Reid/Chicken incident will be brought up here. Besides being a solid player, Reid is a badass for letting his mother feed him in public. That says to me, "I don't care what a no-talent reporter might think of my masculinity, if my mother wants to feed me chicken, well then by all means, I'll allow her to do so." Total badass.
Video Tribute:3. Rocky Hinds, UNLV
We'll have to stick a medical redshirt on Hinds. While his days at UNLV are probably over according to Mike Sanford (who is as good as gone after 2008), he needs some more luck. This is a guy that competed in 2006 with a partially torn ACL! I've never had one of those before, but from most accounts those are pretty painful and a must-be-healthy component of any athlete. The very fact that he was able to play an entire year with that really speaks to his toughness.
As a matter of fact, it's really a crying shame that he didn't exactly pan out the way he was supposed to. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Sanford said, "As far as I know, he's not part of our football team." So, even though we'll see what his future presents for him, the least he could ask for is to be named on the All-Badass team, isn't it?
Video Tribute:
Okay, so there's not much in the vault on Youtube regarding Rocky Hinds. So, I guess I'll just leave you with head coach Mike Sanford breaking down a little bit...
