Is anybody else tired of this Rich Rodriguez non-story? Seriously, I am. And, I know, as a Michigan fan, I should care, but I just don't. It doesn't appeal to me and for the longest time, I've basically just been sticking my head in the sand and not paying attention to most of it. Just to set the record straight, Michael Rosenberg wrote a moronic piece in the Detroit Free Press about the entire situation. You can read that here, it's self-explanatory as to why he is indeed, a boob. If you care for all of the technical stuff about why it is moronic, Brian from MGoBlog hit on the topic much more in depth than I will, because I'm not going to pretend to know every single goings-on in this debacle.
But, I do have a few things to say. First off, I know exactly why West Virginians are extremely upset at Rich Rodriguez. For one reason or another, many fans draw parallels between the state of West Virginia and West Virginia Mountaineer football. Don't ask me why, they do. I know this from reading different message boards from time to time and the governor, the freakin' governor of the state of West Virginia, Joe Manchin decides to get his ass involved. I realized he went there and was going to play football for the university, but doesn't he have more important things to worry about such as how to make the coal mining industry as safe as possible or grow the state economy? Politicians in sports are just ridiculous. I'm sorry, it's just moronic. There are important things, like actually governing the people that elected you instead of getting involved in a pastime, something people do to kill time. It's ridiculous.
When Rodriguez decided to "backstab" the program, they went beserk trying to figure out why DickRod would ditch the entire state that gave him his start for Michigan. $$$$!!! That's pretty much what it came down to. Not to mention he ditched his uglier prom date for a hot one. No offense to West Virginia football because it is a solid program and a very respectable one at that, but Michigan is in the echelon of the elite; you know, with the Notre Dames, Nebraskas, and Floridas of the world. It doesn't mean that Mountaineer football isn't as good as these teams, they're definitely better than Michigan, Notre Dame, or Nebraska going into 2008, but these are college football Meccas. The recruiting is national, the exposure is immense, and the opportunities to win championships will be more plentiful during the longhaul. It's not hard to see why Rich Rodriguez left West Virginia.
Anyway, my focus isn't on West Virginians right now. I've already talked about how some fans have become the crazy ex-girlfriend psychobitch in this situation. I'm not going to repeat the same talking points over and over again. I'm more angry at Michael Rosenberg who wrote an article, basically telling us how sleazy Rich Rodriguez is as a person. Because he took a job for more money. You know, like Rosenberg wouldn't jump ship to the New York Times in a heartbeat if they offered him more money to write about sports. Look, there's nothing wrong with making the most money you possibly can. It's a little something called the "American Dream." Ever heard of it? Seesh.
In some weird, perverse way, Michael Rosenberg is basically telling us how "unbiased" he is. By doing so, he goes out of his way to attack Rich Rodriguez's character. He feels he is objective unlike his heathen readership who don't know any better because they're blinded by Maize n' Blue glasses.
I felt these were the dumbest things in an article full of circumstantial "facts":
"There are only two winners here. One is West Virginia, which will get the $4 million it is rightfully owed. The other is those of us who just wanted the truth.
We now know Rodriguez to be a serial job-shopper. His agent, Mike Brown, had pitched Rodriguez's services to Alabama, Arkansas and Lousiana State in recent years before pursuing Michigan.
We now know Rodriguez doesn't believe in contracts. He signed an amended contract with West Virginia just four months before he left. He then claimed that the signed contract was not as important as a verbal agreement that preceded it - a laughable legal argument."
Like Brian said, I could imagine Rich Rodriguez or athletic director Bill Martin being interrogated by Tom Cruise right about know. I want to know the truth too, dammit, because this is life-and-death important. The well-being of this nation depends on it. There's a big-time scandal going on and Rosenberg is here to set Rodriguezgate straight. Good for him. Also, how is Rodriguez a "job-shopper"? You mean to say he's in the league of Larry Brown or something like that? Are you serious? Please! Rodriguez used Alabama to get a higher salary. Duh. He didn't expect the Michigan job to become open the year after that took place. Not to mention, he's been the head coach of Glenville State, West Virginia, and now Michigan. Sounds like an ethicsless douchebag if you ask me. And the contract comment is ludicrous. Geez, any coach that goes anywhere else before the contract expires violates their written agreement. That's what those buyout clauses are there for. Where's the loyalty nowadays?
To be honest, Rich Rodriguez may be wrong in all of this. I don't know. I don't have the facts, mainly because I haven't been paying attention. My question is, why do these people care so much? Rodriguez was hired to win football games, not to be a nice guy. Maybe if Michigan was the school being backstabbed, I'd be looking at this from a different perspective, but I just can't. Brian Kelly left CMU for Cincy and I don't feel like he betrayed his launching pad. He was trying to further his career, as was Rodriguez, but RichRod got all of the crap from kooky fans to go along with it.
So, according to Rosenberg, Rodriguez doesn't have any ethics, is sleazy, job-hops, screwed the state of West Virginia, is bullheaded, burns orphanages, etc. I'm officially tired of this story and I'll never talk about it again. You have my promise.
For this piece of trash, Michael Rosenberg, you are a boob.

Before you comment on your own blog, maybe you should familiarize yourself with the facts. Just saying.
I have looked at a number of things, but I don't exactly know the intricacies of facts. I believe Rich Rodriguez to be a person who's looking out for himself, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I understand the criticism coming from the West Virginia crowd, unjustified or not. What I was basically mad about was Rosenberg's holier-than-thou attitude while he was writing this article.
